Insurance connection: Liability in public spaces
Auto insurance protects drivers involved in traffic accidents, but liability coverage is essential for property owners and operators of public spaces. California's mandatory minimum liability limits are $30,000 per person and $60,000 per accident for injury or death. Collision coverage pays for damage from physical contact with another vehicle or object, while comprehensive covers other causes such as theft, vandalism, and falling objects. For operators of community facilities, broader liability protection is typically necessary. Eligibility and limits depend on the individual policy. The issued policy controls.
